Who can deliver ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) for disposal?

  • Legally - only approved transporters; or
  • Residents carrying less than 250kg

Where can ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) be disposed?

  • The Browns Plains Landfill is open from 7 am to 5.30 pm every day except for Christmas Day. However ACM loads will only be accepted between 8 am and 3 pm

What is the Council ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) disposal procedure?

  • Council Weighbridge Staff have been given very broad directions on materials that could contain asbestos.
  • If there is any doubt about the asbestos content of a waste load, it is regarded as ACM.
  • Weighbridge Staff should be given at least one hour's notice of the arrival of ACM - call the Weighbridge on 3412 4742.
  • Weighbridge Staff will check that the load has been wetted down, double wrapped and securely sealed in plastic and transported in covered bins or a covered truck.
  • Transporters are required to take care to ensure that ACM remains contained during handling.
  • In particular, bags of ACM must not be thrown or dropped from a height that may cause the bag to rupture.
  • Council will not provide assistance in physically removing asbestos loads from transport vehicles.  Customers should be aware that, if they require assistance in unloading, they should be accompanied to the landfill by persons who are able to assist.

What are the fees for disposing of ACM (Asbestos Containing Material)?

  • Fees for ACM is noted within the Logan SmartTip Fees Brochure as "Other Disposals>Special and Supervised Burials".
  • The fees are also available on Council's website listed under Special Burials (asbestos).
