Non-Payment of Parking Fines
Where a parking infringement notice is issued to a person and the person takes no action within 28 days, the infringement notice is referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) for recovery and further costs may be incurred.
Where a parking infringement notice is attached to a vehicle, if no action is taken within the 28 day period, a reminder notice is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.
A reminder notice is issued for a number of reasons including when the vehicle had been used by another person and the owner is unaware of the fine, or the vehicle had been sold but registration details not changed.
When a reminder notice is issued to the owner of the vehicle, Council allows 28 days to make full payment. A registered owner's search fee is charged to the owner in addition to the original infringement notice amount.
If no payment is received by the due date then Council will forward the matter to SPER for recovery and further costs may be incurred.
SPER can take enforcement action against the recipient in the form of:
- Driver's licence suspension
- Fines collection notice
- Immobilisation warrant
- Seizure of property
- Arrest warrant
