Sport & Recreation
Council aims for an 'active Logan', where residents value and integrate physical activity into their daily lives through participation in sport and recreation.
To build an active Logan, Council needs to continue developing a range of quality, accessible and affordable sport, recreation and physical activity places and opportunities. Council also needs to develop and foster strategic partnerships with key organisations inside and outside the city. Council has developed the following strategies, and is implementing their recommendations, to help meet these challenges.
Active Logan
The Active Logan Strategy 2010-2013 (PDF 910 KB) is about encouraging healthy and active lifestyles in the Logan community.
The strategy supports accessible activities through local sport and recreational clubs, which encourage participation by all. There needs to be activities for all abilities and fitness levels.
Opportunities need to be inclusive, flexible and adaptable to meet the diverse and changing needs of Logan, for now and the future.
Recreation trails
In 2010, Council endorsed its first Recreation Trails Strategy 2010-2020 (PDF 4574 KB) that also includes the Bethania to Beaudesert rail trail feasibility study.
This strategy identifies a number of key land and water based trail opportunities which have the potential to deliver real benefits to the community while being achievable to deliver by Council.
Master plans
Sport and recreation master plans provide a coordinated and strategic planning approach to the provision and development of sport and recreation infrastructure.
The development of a master plan involves reviewing, analysing and identifying sport and recreation needs and issues for Council, clubs and the community they serve, and provides strategies to address these factors.
The master plans include both a written report detailing what direction each reserve should take over the next 20 years and a concept plan of what the reserve may look like.
Please note that these concept plans are not definitive and are reviewed regularly as sporting trends change, opportunities arise and the community's needs change.
