About
Smart planning will ensure Logan City is well prepared for its projected population growth of 170,000 new residents over the next 20 years.
Environment sustainability a key feature
It's not just about buildings and roads - the Logan City of the future will be 70% green with a balance between managing growth and enhancing the natural environment.
Environmentally sustainable design features will include:
- green technologies
- water sensitive urban design
- innovative waste management practices
- more efficient use of energy.
Rural identity will be retained in rural areas - parks and bushland will be protected and community gardens and local produce markets encouraged. There will be less commuting as self contained suburbs will feature local jobs.
Business and economy
The new planning scheme will directly benefit the local community as well as anyone wanting to invest or undertake development in Logan City. Commercial and industrial precincts will attract new enterprises with the timely delivery of appropriate infrastructure and a strong export focus.
Lifestyle
Walkable communities will feature enhanced community open spaces and eco-friendly walking and cycling tracks to encourage 'active transport'. Well-planned and integrated urban and regional centres will be focused around public transport hubs in key locations with closer connections to transport, shopping, parks, schools and work places.
Community consultation
The new planning scheme project has been designed to allow a number of opportunities for key stakeholder input as well as broad community consultation. Focused consultation was undertaken in 2009 and broader community consultation is scheduled 2012.
