Council program assists sporting, community and recreation organisations to fund facilities

Under Logan City Council's Sport and Recreation Funding Program - Upgrade or New Facility Category, not for profit organisations, sporting and recreation clubs are invited to partner with Council to apply for funding and development grants from the Queensland Government’s sport and recreation grants and Gambling Community Benefit Funds.
Chair of the Sport and Community Services Committee, Councillor Steve Swenson said the funding program had helped local clubs to fast track substantial developments in Logan over the past two years.
“Last year 11 organisations shared in approximately $1.7 million of project funding towards new sports infrastructure.
“All received a combination of Council funding and funding from the State Government’s Get Playing Places and Spaces Grants.” he said.
“Sporting infrastructure including building extensions, lighting, fixed irrigation systems and playing field upgrades were all made possible without the need for raffles or other community fundraisers.”
This year the Upgrade or New Facility category will again target external funding sources including the Get in the Game - Get Playing Places and Spaces Fund, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and other grants programs.
To be considered a sport, recreation or community organisation will need to submit their completed Organisation Planning Tool Kit to council and satisfy the criteria published on Council’s website at http://www.logan.qld.gov.au/community-support/grants/sport-and-recreation-funding
The funding program opens at 8.00 am 3 May and will close at 5.00 pm on 31 May 2016.
