Eco award nominations now open for 2015
Published: 10 March 2015
People who can enhance and protect the City of Logan's natural environment and encourage sustainable practices are being encouraged to nominate for this year's Logan City Eco Awards.
Parks, Health, Environment and Sustainability Committee Chairperson, Councillor Trevina Schwarz (Division 11), said the awards aimed to recognise, congratulate, and encourage those in the community who were playing a part in making Logan a more environmentally sustainable place to live.
"This will be the fourth year that the successful Logan Eco awards have been run," she said.
"Households that are making an effort to reduce their environmental impact by, for example, composting their food scraps, having a backyard veggie patch, installing solar panels, or using natural breezes to cool their house could be in with a good chance of winning an award."
There are a number of categories that nominees can apply for including the Sustainable Household Category, the Community Eco-Action Category, and the two Sustainable Business Categories.
Applications close at 5pm on 27 March 2015.
Successful nominations will be announced at the 2015 Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF), being held on 31 May 2015 at Griffith University, Logan Campus.
Winners will be presented with a plaque that had been handmade by local artist Steve Whitby using recycled timbers.
