Clever handmade items that are ideal as Christmas gifts will be on sale at the Logan Art Gallery's handmade extravaganza exhibition.

Christmas shopping will be made easier when Logan Art Gallery hosts its annual local handmade extravaganza from next week.

City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson, Councillor Steve Swenson, said the gallery would showcase an array of handmade items from local artists for the popular Creative Markets and The Logan Treasures: art, craft and design pop-up store.

Cr Swenson said the pop-up store and markets would be open from 10am to 2pm as part of the Gallery’s annual exhibitions program which opens on Friday, November 30 and runs through to January 12

The program highlights the best of Logan’s artists, craft workers and designers.

“We are bringing together some of Logan’s most artistic and craft-inspired people to provide the community with a special four-hour shopping experience, Cr Swenson said.

“This is your chance to buy interesting and in some cases one-off products which make ideal gifts for your friends and family.

“Turned wood pieces, ceramic items, jewellery and dolls and toys which are all handmade locally will be among the many items for sale.”

Cr Swenson said as part of the day, the artists in the pop-up store would also be hosting special demonstrations inside the gallery.

He said hand-crafted wares, food and entertainment would all be on offer at the Creative Markets in the gallery’s grounds.

“You will be able to pick up a special handmade gift from Logan Treasures, the Creative Market or the Art Gallery Store and perhaps cross another recipient off your Christmas shopping list.”

People also will be able to join the artists from the Safe Space contemporary sculpture exhibition for an informative talk about their works from noon to 1pm.

Safe Space is an exhibition of contemporary Australian sculpture that examines space in both its physical and psychological sense.

This touring exhibition, curated by Christine Morrow, is an initiative of Museums and Galleries Queensland developed in partnership with Logan City Council through Logan Art Gallery.

It will be hosted at the Logan Art Gallery from November 30 to January 12, 2019.
