The Queensland Government handed back Cronulla Park in Slacks Creek to Logan City Council, paving the way for the potential future development of a community sports facility on the site.

Logan residents will decide the future of Cronulla Park in Slacks Creek now the Queensland Government has handed back the site to Logan City Council.

The State Government considered developing greyhound racing facilities at the Compton Road site but abandoned the proposal, partly due to community opposition to the idea.

Logan Mayor Luke Smith welcomed the move and said the community will now have a say in Cronulla Park’s future.

"The overwhelming voice of the city told us they do not want a greyhound racing track in Logan," he said.

"It’s not something we identify with nor did we want to give the perception that greyhound tracks offer benefits to the community.

"I would like to see a multi-sports complex there, something that we can offer our residents to get them out and involved in training or recreation of their choice.

"There's a lot of opportunities we can utilise that field for and that's what we prefer."

A community consultation process will be undertaken to hear the views of residents about future development options for community use on the site.
