One of Logan’s most popular libraries marks 10 years of service to the community this month.
City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said Logan North Library had been celebrating its 10th anniversary throughout October.
“To date, during 2018 Logan North Library attracted the highest number of visitors across the nine Logan libraries, as well as the highest number of items borrowed,” Cr Swenson said.
“This is a very much loved and valued library in the local community.”
Cr Swenson said more than two million people have visited Logan North Library in its present location on Sports Drive, since opening in October 2008.
“Over the 10 years the library has been in its current location more than 4,300,000 items have been borrowed by customers.
“Library staff have fulfilled more than 770,000 requests for quality information, readers’ advisory and technology assistance.
“Some of the unique services offered at Logan North Library are its four thriving book clubs (the largest number of book clubs for our nine libraries) and the Accessibility Centre.
“Over the past 10 years the Be Connected for older Australians program has operated through the commitment of skilled computing volunteers.
“The library also hosted regular family history programs run by experienced volunteer researchers.”
Cr Swenson said over the past decade author talks and Queensland Writers Centre workshops for budding writers had been extremely popular.
“Logan North patrons embraces every author and creative that has ever visited and are keen to learn these skills themselves.”
Cr Swenson said children’s programs under an enchanting fairy tree were also extremely popular with strong visitor numbers.
He said a special celebration on October 31 would bring the month long anniversary celebrations to a close.
