Their career paths are distinctive but these four Logan-based young achievers share one thing in common: they will get assistance in their tertiary studies and career dreams from the Logan City Council and local businesses.
They are four of the 17 students to receive one of this year’s City of Logan Tertiary Educational Bursaries.
Each bursary is for $3000 per student, spread over the first two to three years of their tertiary course.
City of Logan Acting Mayor Cherie Dalley said the program started more than 20 years ago and had helped many young people pursue career paths that might not have been possible without financial assistance.
“Thanks to the support of 12 local businesses, we’ve been able to award 17 bursaries this year to some outstanding students,” Cr Dalley said.
“Not only have the recipients exceeded academically, many have also demonstrated outstanding cultural and community achievements.
“It’s evident that the future of Logan is in safe hands when you meet outstanding young citizens like these bursary recipients.”
City Treasurer Trevina Schwarz said the bursaries were a great way of helping young Logan residents reach their full potential.
“It’s extremely rewarding for us as a council to help out our youth in such a practical way,” Cr Schwarz said.
“We wish this cohort of bursary recipients well as they begin their studies.”
The first Logan City Tertiary Educational Bursary was established with solicitors Corrs Chambers Westgarth in 1995.
Since then more than 100 students have benefitted from the program.
Applications for the 2020 Logan City Tertiary Educational Bursaries will open in October.
