Street name change planned to help emergency services

The two sections of Sentinel Dr at Greenbank will have "east" and "west" added to their names from April 2016 to help emergency services respond more promptly to residents' calls.

Logan City Council Roads and Water Infrastructure Committee Chairperson, Councillor Don Petersen, said the road, which runs off Pub Lane, had been built in two sections either side of Oxley Creek when it was still part of the former Beaudesert Shire.

"We were recently contacted by a resident who had required an ambulance to attend their property, but the ambulance was unfortunately delayed because the officers turned into the other section of Sentinel Dr," Cr Petersen said.

"The Queensland Ambulance Service's GPS units are programmed to take their officers via the quickest route to incidents, and there is always a possibility that they can be redirected to the wrong end, which is why we are taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again for residents of Sentinel Dr.

"Our Changing of Names of Roads Policy allows us to make this change as it will mean improved response times from emergency services, and alleviate confusion for other services."

Cr Petersen said Council would directly notify residents about the change before it took effect on 4 April 2016 to give them plenty of time to make arrangements.
