Vax jabs now available on weekends

Logan residents will now have more convenient access to life-saving immunisations on the weekend following the opening of a new Council-operated clinic.
The free immunisation clinic opened on the 8th of January, and is available from 9 to 11am on Saturdays at the Hyperdome Library.
Parks, Health, Environment and Sustainability Committee Chair, Councillor Trevina Schwarz, said the clinic provides a convenient option for working parents wanting to make sure their children were immunised on time, against preventable diseases.
“As a community we rely on everyone keeping their immunity up to date to protect the most vulnerable among us,” she said.
“It is especially important that young children and babies receive their immunisations at each critical age milestone to prevent deadly diseases such as polio, measles, mumps and rotavirus.
“Now that Council is providing a free clinic that can be accessed on the weekend, working families have more flexibility to get immunisations done at a time that is convenient.”
The introduction comes as a number of new clinic locations have been added to Council’s regular clinic schedule around the city.
Cr Schwarz said the combination of school holidays and new locations was the ideal time to catch up on immunisations before changes to family payments and State Government regulations mandating vaccinations came into effect.
“There are some changes to family tax benefits and child care rebates that could hit parent’s hip pocket if children aren’t on their immunisation timetable, and children could miss out on care if not fully vaccinated,” she said.
"Council immunisation clinics are staffed by immunisation specialists who can assist you in planning a catch-up schedule should your child be overdue for vaccinations.
“Take advantage of free clinics at new locations, including the Eagleby Family Centre, St Francis College and Marsden Library, as well as the Hyperdome Library, to get your children up to date.
“Failure to do so not only puts children at risk, but it could mean they are excluded from day care with parents losing family payments from the Federal Government.”
