Daisy Hill, Beenleigh to feature in Queen’s Baton Relay

City of Logan residents can start planning their Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) experience after the announcement of the street-level details and community celebrations at Daisy Hill and Beenleigh.

On 1 April 2018, the Queen’s Baton will start travelling through the Daisy Hill route at approximately 8:20am. From the Daisy Hill Koala Centre, the Baton will travel south on Daisy Hill Rd to Shailer Road and will terminate at Shailer Pioneer Park on Harley Street, Shailer Park.

The Baton will then travel through Beenleigh starting at about 10:35am from Doug Larsen Park on Boundary Road, then on to City Road and down Main Street, terminating at the end of Main Street.

City of Logan Mayor Luke Smith said the Queen’s Baton will spend quality time in each community it visits.

“The relay has been designed so that local communities can be part of the Baton’s journey and experience the excitement of the Commonwealth Games,” Mayor Smith said.

City Image Committee Chairperson, Councillor Laurie Smith, said Council is encouraging the community, particularly those along the two routes, to embrace the Games celebrations.

“Council is organising special celebration events in line with the routes to allow as many of our residents as possible to experience the excitement of the Commonwealth Games, cheer on our batonbearers and show their support for the athletes,” Cr Smith said.

“Extensive communications and traffic plans will be rolled out to assist local residents along the route to plan their own celebrations.

“Further details will be announced on Council’s website and social media in the coming weeks.”
