Logan Art Gallery exhibitor named in honours list

The dedication of Logan Art Gallery stalwart Esther Austin has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson, Councillor Steve Swenson said the former Heritage Park artist had received an Order of Australia (OAM) medal in the general division of the honours list.
“This honour was well deserved as it was for her service to visual arts, which has been extensive,” Cr Swenson said.
“We offer our congratulations to Ms Austin who is a well-respected and much-loved artist whose long career has often been connected with Logan.
“She has exhibited extensively at the Logan Art Gallery since 1996 and in fact, the 90-year-old had her exhibition Looking forward at the gallery earlier this year, which was well received by the community.
“Ms Austin was also the recipient of Logan City Council’s Australia Day Cultural Award in 2005.”
Now based in Guanaba, Ms Austin’s lifelong dedication to her practice is an inspiration to Logan’s artistic community.
"Ms Austin began her studies in the 1940s and has continued as a practising visual artist ever since,” Cr Swenson said.
"She has been a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society since 1967 and a society fellow since 2005.
“She has also been a member of the Half Dozen Group of Artists since 1992.
