Access and inclusion plan 2019 to 2022

Our Access and Inclusion Plan 2019 - 2022 (PDF 2 MB) is a four year strategic plan.

It upholds the rights of people of all abilities by guiding our practices across the organisation and in the community.

It includes 84 actions across nine priority areas identified by the Logan community.

The Second Progress Report 2020 - 2021

The Access and Inclusion Second Progress Report 2020-2021 was endorsed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 23 March 2022.

While this report is being prepared, we can share some of our main highlights:

  • We have proudly achieved full accreditation for WCAG 2.1 AA and Gold standard certification for a plain English website. This means everyone can access our website. Find out more about this accreditation on our Accessibility webpage.
  • More accessible programs have been included in the Active and Healthy Program. You can find adaptive programs on our Active and Healthy page.
  • Our libraries now has dyslexia-friendly font, and you can find the dyslexia symbol to identify these books or visit our library website to find out more.
  • Our ibraries have developed a new expression of interest form to support artists living with disability to exhibit at the Accessibility Centre Art Wall. You can submit this application through the Accessibility Centre website.
  • We have started Disability Awareness Training for staff. We are promoting the rights of people with disability, and support staff to be more inclusive.
  • We amended local laws for disability parking to increase the fine from $266 and two penalty units, to $533 and four penalty units in-line with changes to State Legislation. You can find a list of local shopping centres where our Community Parking Officers monitor on our Parking webpage.

First Annual Progress Report 2019 - 2020

The First Annual Progress Report 2019 - 2020 provides an update of the progress and achievements in the delivery of the Access and Inclusion Plan from the April 2019 to March 2020 reporting period. 

The 84 actions within the plan are delivered by 20 branches across Council who meet bi-monthly to monitor and track the progress. Over the 2019 - 2020 reporting period, 97.6 percent or 82 out of 84 deliverables have been completed or are on track.

Some of our highlights include:

  • we launched a new website that meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and are accredited with the gold standard level through the Plain Language Pro program.
  • we advocated for the relocation of Loganlea Train station which will conform to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
  • various accessible and inclusive activities have been delivered including sensory story times, all ability guided walks, adaptive gymnastics, adaptive aquatic lessons and more.
