Community Project Grants

Community Project Grants (CPG) support projects that address local community priorities. Applications are welcome for projects that:

  • build an engaged and inclusive community
  • increase participation in community life and / or
  • increase skills, knowledge and leadership capability within the community sector.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our eligibility criteria has temporarily changed. Please see below for further details.

Small grants

Up to $3,000

Partnership grants (projects that are delivered with at least one other organisation or group)

$3,001 - $10,000

Application timeframes

  • applications are open all year round
  • you must submit your application at least 12 weeks before your project start date
  • we aim to let you know the outcome within eight weeks of receiving your application.


We have temporarily changed eligibility requirements due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Until further notice, only the following types of projects will be considered:

  • projects that support the community during COVID-19, and
  • projects that comply with current government restrictions relating to COVID-19. 

You are welcome to work on and submit applications for all community projects at any time. Only projects that respond to COVID-19 will be assessed at this time. Assessment of in-person projects will begin after COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.

Once you create a SmartyGrants login you can start your application. Please apply online through SmartyGrants.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Examples of previously funded events

Connect Cultural Arts primary school program, 2019

This program provided children free weekly workshops after school to build cultural knowledge.

Young Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) women taught new skills like drumming, visual art, dance and more.

The program addressed positive body image, learning and celebrating diverse cultures.

Not Now, Not Ever awareness campaign, 2019

This awareness campaign was a community-driven initiative to build a safe and supportive city.

With a focus on decreasing domestic violence and creating respectful relationships this campaign shared stories and their message through social media and printed community resources.
