About this event

Join us for a free PlatypusWatch Logan – Education and Induction session at the Logan City Recreational and Sporting Club (Logan City Rec Club).

Learn more about one of Australia's most iconic species and find out how you can become a surveyor for Watergum's PlatypusWatch and help to monitor wild platypus populations.

The topics will include:

  • platypus history,
  • the biology of platypus,
  • the lifecycle and breeding of platypus,
  • food and habitat,
  • threats to platypus and
  • Watergum’s PlatypusWatch survey program.

Watergum's PlatypusWatch is a citizen science program that has monitored platypus populations in Logan and on the Gold Coast and for the past 12 years.

Community volunteers help to collate vital data on platypus populations and habitat by going out into the environment to search for platypus, with all sightings and observations reported to council and added to national databases.

Now more than ever, our local platypus need your help. With increased urbanisation and natural disasters, platypus populations are under threat. With your help we can monitor family groups and help ensure their survival for future generations. For more information, please visit PlatypusWatch
