Mobile Microchipping & Chip Check
Keeping pets safe is a priority for Council's Animal Care team who will, in conjunction with the RSPCA, be offering discounted microchipping services at various locations across the City throughout 2019. All cats and dogs born after 1 July 2009 must be implanted with a microchip, so that Council, a vet or welfare organisation can identify them if found lost or wandering and return them to you.
Each year, thousands of pets arrive at shelters and council based centres across Australia without any form of identification (collar, name or registration tag and microchip) which makes it very difficult to identify them and reunite them with their owners. The great thing about a microchip, unlike a collar or tag, is that it can't get lost!
The procedure is quick and virtually painless for your pet - it takes longer for you to fill out the paperwork! Save time by downloading and completing the microchip registration paperwork here (PDF 527 KB). Don't forget to bring it with you on the day.
For just $20, our trained staff will implant your pet and register your details with the microchip provider. Don't forget that microchipping your pet is law and does not replace your pet's registration with Council.
Think your pet is already microchipped but can't find your details? Not a problem. Get your pet's chip checked at any of the scheduled events. With the wave of a microchipping wand we'll record your pet's microchip details for you.
What if you can't find my pet's microchip? Microchips are usually located at the back of your pet's head in their neck region. Sometimes, they can travel, but not far. If we can't find it, it means your pet probably isn't microchipped.
So, where can you find us? You won't miss us! Look for the RSPCA mobile microchipping trailer at one of the locations below:
