History
Kagaru remains a quiet, out-of-the-way place, with only the trains on the Sydney to Brisbane rail line disturbing its tranquillity. It remains quiet even though it is close to the vast new suburban developments at Flagstone and other nearby areas.
The name Kagaru was chosen by the Railways Department on 14 February 1930, for the Kagaru Railway Station. Kagaru is the Aboriginal word for the blue-winged kookaburra (Dacelo gigas syn. Dacelo novaeguineae). The train station no longer exists.
Kagaru was officially named and bounded on 24 April 1997. It was formerly in the now defunct Shire of Beaudesert. In March 2008 the Kagaru area was split between Logan City and Scenic Rim Region, under the Local Government Reform Implementation Act 2007.
