How Were Food Businesses Rated?
From December 2010, all licensed food businesses (except food stalls and water carriers) received an educational rating audit. The audit assessed how the business complied with the Food Act 2006, National Food Safety Standards and good management practices. The rating audit will replace the current inspection by Council. There will be no extra cost to businesses.
From July 2011 food businesses were audited and given a star rating for public display. Food businesses can choose to display the rating.
Council has met with industry, industry associations and residents to get their views and opinions on a star rating scheme. A summary can be seen in the project timetable.
