Non-Payment of Parking Fines
When a parking fine is issued to a person, and the person takes no action within 28 days, a reminder notice is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.
A reminder notice is issued for a number of reasons, including when the vehicle had been used by another person and the owner is unaware of the fine, or the vehicle had been sold but registration details not changed.
When a reminder notice is issued to the owner of the vehicle, Council allows 14 days to make full payment. A registered owner's search fee may be charged to the owner in addition to the original infringement notice amount.
If payment is not received, a final reminder notice will be issued which provides a further 7 days to make payment.
If no payment is received by the due date on the final reminder notice, Council will forward the matter to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER), where further costs may be incurred.
SPER can take enforcement action against the recipient in the form of:
- driver's licence suspension
- fines collection notice
- immobilisation warrant
- seizure of property
- arrest warrant.
