Creative and playful learning experiences for youngsters are being delivered through a new program in the City of Logan.

Logan City Council and Logan Libraries have joined forces to run The Frog Squad@the Splash Pad project at the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre.

The program’s free sessions include First 5 Forever story time, songs and fun water safety themed activities.

The Kids Alive Do The Five water safety program has partnered with activity provider Messy Bubs to a create multi-sensory play program based on Kids Alive’s water safety book series.

The Logan Library team are using the Kids Alive books during story time and as take home resources for families. 

The sessions are designed for children aged up to five-years-old and their families and carers.

The project, which was launched last Tuesday (May 2), will raise awareness about the importance of water safety and early years development through play-based learning.

It is funded by an innovation grant from the Queensland Government through the State Library of Queensland.

The program’s first stage runs from 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday until June 20.

A second phase of the program will be held from 9.30am to 11.30am every Tuesday between October 3 and December 12.

Participants are welcome to take part in some or all of the sessions.

Deputy Mayor and City Lifestyle Chair Laurie Koranski said Logan Libraries, Aqua Logan and the Laurie Lawrence Swim School want to bring water safety and play to life.

“They are doing this through sensory fun and sharing stories to give our little ones the best and safest start in life,” Cr Koranski said.

“This program is all about having fun as well as developing the sensory and literacy skills of participants.

“We encourage everyone with young children to join in this special program and be part of the Frog Squad.”

No bookings are required but participants are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and a towel.
