The annual competition encouraged students to explore their local ties under the theme ‘Connection to Country – This land is me’.

Students provided their own interpretation of connection with country, with the theme providing opportunities for young students to gain an insight, understanding, acknowledgement and appreciation of our first nation communities 'connection to country’.

Mayor Darren Power and Councillors presented this year’s winners with certificates and prize packs at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) at Meadowbrook on Sunday.

St Edwards Catholic Primary School’s Zachary Jacobs was awarded the Mayor’s Choice Award for an artwork that illustrated ‘I am the Land and the Land is me”.

The artwork will be showcased on the front of the calendar.

Councillor Power said that the annual competition always produced inspiring artworks.

“It’s fantastic to see how our youngest generation have connected with country and the natural environment as part of this calendar competition,” Cr Power.

“The artwork each year is always outstanding, and it’s quite a difficult task to narrow it down to just a handful of winners.”

LEAF, Queensland’s largest sustainability festival, welcomed thousands of green thumbs to Meadowbrook on Sunday.
