Dog off-leash areas across the City of Logan will re-open from this weekend (May 9-10).

Logan City Council made the decision today after taking on board the latest advisories from the Federal and State Governments and Queensland Health.

The decision is also in line with some neighbouring councils which have also re-opened dog off-leash areas this weekend.

Logan’s 47 dog parks will be progressively re-opened and signage will be removed from tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 9). It could be later in the day before all dog parks are unlocked.

City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson, Councillor Laurie Koranski, said the re-opening of dog parks across Logan would be warmly welcomed by dog owners but Council’s decision also requires responsible actions from the public.

“This decision will ensure those celebrating Mother’s Day on Sunday can also include an outing with the family pooch,” Cr Koranski said.

“But dog owners are strongly urged to maintain social distancing rules when exercising or watching their pets and follow hand-washing advice from Queensland Health.”

Playgrounds and other park facilities including barbecues, exercise equipment, skate bowls and pump tracks remain closed in accordance with the latest health advisories.

Toilet amenities will be open as per usual timetables.

Council awaits further advice from government and health authorities before making any decisions on other services and facilities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
