Non-payment of parking fines

If parking fines are not paid within 28 days of the issue date of the fine, we will follow the process described below.

  • We will send the registered owner of the vehicle a reminder notice giving them another 14 days to pay. We send a reminder notice to vehicle owners as they may not be aware of the fine perhaps because another person was driving the vehicle or because the vehicle has been sold and the details not updated.
  • If the fine is not paid, we will send a final reminder notice giving another seven days to pay. We will complete a registered owner’s search, and add the fee for this search to the original fine amount.
  • If the fine is not paid after the final reminder due date, we will send the matter to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER). Further costs will apply.

SPER can take enforcement action by:

  • driver's licence suspension
  • fines collection notice
  • immobilisation warrant
  • seizure of property
  • arrest warrant.
