Essential services during holiday break

The hours of operation for Logan City Council's essential services will be changed at some venues during the festive season.

Residents can access Logan City Council’s essential services during the holidays, although hours of operation will change at some venues.

Christmas Day (Monday, December 25), Boxing Day (Tuesday, December 26) and New Year’s Day (Monday, January 1) are public holidays in the City of Logan and Council facilities will not be open.

Online services remain available to report Council-related matters, apply for approvals, or pay rates or bills over the holiday period.

Holiday hours for Council facilities are:

Customer Service Centres (Logan Central, Beenleigh, Jimboomba)

Open normal hours on those weekdays that are not public holidays.

In an emergency, Council can be contacted on its 24-hour customer service line (3412 3412).

Pools, water play areas, gyms and parks

Council pools and gyms will be closed on Christmas Day.

The Mount Warren Sports Centre will be closed on all public holidays while the Logan Metro Gym will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Summer opening hours for each facility varies, including reduced trading hours on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day  and New Year’s Day. For details go to Logan Leisure Centres.

Water play areas at Logan Gardens (Logan Central), Darlington Park (Yarrabilba) and the Flagstone Water Play Park (Undullah) will operate during normal hours over the holiday period.

All Council parks and their facilities are open as normal unless otherwise indicated.

Waste and recycling facilities

General waste, recycling, and green waste wheelie bin collection services will operate as normal.

Bins will be picked up on usual collection day irrespective of public holidays. Bins should be put out ready for collection the night before.

Council’s waste and recycling facilities at Beenleigh, Carbrook, Logan Village and Greenbank will close on Christmas Day.

The Browns Plains waste and recycling facility will be open normal hours (7:00am until 5:30pm) on Christmas Day.

All facilities will open from 7:00am until 5:30pm on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

The Logan Recycling Market will close at 3:00pm on Sunday, December 17 and will reopen at 10:00am on Friday, January 19, 2024.  

The holiday period is a busy time at all waste and recycling facilities and delays are possible.

Customers are asked to be patient and show respect to team members working during the holidays.

Logan Libraries

Council’s nine libraries will close on public holidays but will be open normal hours on other days.

Free resources including books, games and magazines to suit all ages are available 24/7 through Council’s eLibrary, which can be accessed via Logan Libraries

A library membership number and password are required to log in.

Non-members can join online at Logan Libraries.

Logan Art Gallery

Logan Art Gallery is closed from Sunday, December 24 and reopens normal hours on Tuesday, January 2.

Mayes Cottage

Mayes Cottage is closed from Sunday, December 24 and reopens normal hours on Thursday, January 4.

Animal Management Centre

The Animal Management Centre will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The centre will operate on normal hours outside of these dates (Monday to Friday: 8:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday: 9:00am until 2:00pm).

Lost cats or dogs found outside of business hours can be placed in Council’s holding pens at the Animal Management Centre, 213 Queens Road, Kingston.

The after-hours holding pens are not suitable for sick or injured animals or wildlife. Contact your local vet or the RSPCA Emergency Hotline: 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625).

Council’s Animal Management after-hours emergency response service (3412 3412) will operate 24/7 over the holidays.

Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC) and Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) Cultural Precinct

The LEC will be closed on Thursday, December 21 and will reopen on Monday, January 8.

The KBF Cultural Precinct gates will be closed from 4:00pm on Saturday, December 23 and will reopen at 8:00am on Tuesday, January 2.

The Kingston Butter Factory Building will be closed from 4:00pm on Saturday, December 23 and will reopen at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 2.

The Living Museum of Logan will be closed from Sunday December 24 and will reopen normal hours on Tuesday, January 2.

The Logan City Historical Museum will be closed from 3:00pm on Saturday, December 23, and will reopen at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 9.

The Devon Pixies Teahouse Café will be closed from 3:00pm on Saturday, December 16 and will reopen for coffee service only at 8am on Tuesday, January 16. Full trade will recommence on Tuesday, January 23.

The box office at both venues will be closed for in-person and phone sales from Thursday, December 21 until Monday, January 8.

Tickets for upcoming performances will be available online at Logan Arts during this period.

Community venues

The Community Venues office will be closed from 5:00pm on Friday, December 22 until 8am Tuesday, January 2, with only pre-booked events delivered during these dates.

All event bookings must be finalised prior to today (Friday, December 15).

Immunisation services

Council immunisation services will end for 2023 on Saturday, December 16. The first clinics for 2023 will begin on Thursday, January 4. For a full schedule go to Immunisation

Cemeteries

All seven Council-managed cemeteries (Beenleigh, Chambers Flat, Eagleby, Logan Village, Maclean, Parkhouse and Plunkett Road) will be open normal hours (5:00am to 8:00pm) for visiting, however no burials are conducted on public holidays.
