Logan Youth Action Group

What is it?

The Logan Youth Action Group (LYAG) is made up of young people aged 14 to 24 years old who live, work or study in the City of Logan and are passionate about making a positive difference in the local community.

The group will take an active role in ensuring the needs of our city’s young people are heard, while also turning ideas into exciting community projects in areas like education and employment, mental health, community safety and environmental sustainability.

Who can join?

The group is open to change-makers aged 14 to 24 who are ready to make Logan a great place to live, learn and grow.

Why should I join?

  • To inspire and drive change by leading community projects.
  • Gain experience for your resume.
  • Meet with like-minded youth.
  • Develop leadership skills.
  • Build connections and community networks.
  • Provide advice on Council projects impacting young people.
  • Get to know your local Councillor and be involved in local government.

How often are the meetings?

  • Meeting will be held every two months. This may change to monthly depending on the project work occuring.
  • Meeting times will be held between 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
  • Project teams will meet more often as decided by the group.

Examples of projects by LYAG in 2021

Logan StreetFest

LYAG collaborated with REKON youth outreach and the Positive Mindset Festival to bring an event called ‘StreetFest’ to Logan to celebrate Mental Health Week 2021. The event was jam packed with activities led by Logan youth to bring a focus on keeping a positive mindset.  Activities included podcast recording, t-shirt printing, gaming and music workshops.

Clean up Australia Day event

The action group hosted a Clean Up Australia Day event encouraging everyone to help keep our planet clean by taking part in a community rubbish collection. The event included a free sausage sizzle, an educational sessional and an opportunity for participants to support the community organisation Oz Harvest.

Logan Eco Action Festival

The group delivered an interactive community education game at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) to celebrate everything eco while exploring how we can all reduce, reuse and recycle to create a more sustainable world and future.
