The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer organisation that supports the community during emergencies and disasters.

Storm and flood emergencies

As the SES has limited resources, please make sure your situation is an emergency before you call. During a disaster, the SES may be overwhelmed with requests for help and may not be able to get to you immediately.

Before calling the SES, consider whether you can help yourself by:

• placing a bucket under a leak
• repositioning furniture
• placing a tarp over furniture.

You can call the SES for the following help during emergencies:

• fallen trees and branches blocking access to your home
• major flooding
• access to tarpaulins for homes
• access to sandbags.

The SES is not available for general maintenance on leaking roofs or to clean blocked gutters when it rains. If you rent your property, contact the owner or manager for maintenance issues. This should be done before the wet season.

The SES needs your permission to enter your property or access a roof. The SES volunteer may need to turn off your power before accessing your roof. If the SES turns off your power, you will be responsible for reconnecting it.

What the SES does

In Logan, the major functions of the SES include:

• providing temporary storm damage repairs to private homes, including emergency roof tarping
• helping during floods, including emergency sandbagging
• other emergency help as required.

Location of SES depots

There are six SES depots in Logan:

• Logan East: 26–36 Winnetts Road, Daisy Hill (SES headquarters)
• Logan Central: 3 Garfield Road, Logan Central
• Logan Village: 1464 Waterford Tamborine Road, Logan Village
• Logan West: 3812–3818 Mount Lindesay Highway, Park Ridge
• Beenleigh: 36 Martens Road, Beenleigh
• Jimboomba: 35 Matt Court, Jimboomba

Sandbags

Sandbags can reduce the impact of flooding if they’re placed in appropriate locations around your home or business.

You should buy or prepare your own sandbags before a disaster or emergency, rather than rely on the SES. Sandbags can be purchased at major hardware stores, landscape suppliers and other retailers.

Sandbag walls are not waterproof and will not stop the water completely. You can use plastic sheeting with sandbags to reduce the amount of water entering. Please download the Using sandbags correctly PDF (1.9 MB) for more information on how to fill, lay, dispose of and store sandbags.

A limited supply of free sandbags and sand may be available for collection from designated SES and Council depots during a storm or flood. Contact SES on 132 500 to confirm which depots are active and whether sandbags are available.

You may be required to fill your own sandbags at the SES depot. If you are unable to do so, call the SES on 132 500 to make alternative arrangements.
