Disability parking permits
Accessible parking spaces for individuals with disabilities are located throughout the City of Logan to support mobility-impaired residents and visitors in accessing all areas of the city.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are responsible for the administration and issuing of disability parking permits. Disability permits are unable to be applied for through Council.
You can apply for a disability parking permit if you have one of the following:
- Mobility impairment:
- Unable to walk and always require the use of a wheelchair.
- Ability to walk is severely restricted by a permanent medical condition, or ability to walk is severely restricted by a temporary medical condition, or disability that they will have for 6 months or more as certified by a health professional.
- Vision impairment:
- Have been diagnosed as ‘legally blind’. This includes in a temporary (for 6 months or more), or permanent basis.
There are 2 types of disability permits: an Australian Disability Parking Permit and a Queensland Disability Parking Permit (Red Permit).
Australian Disability Parking Permit holders are entitled to:
- Park in any space provided for a person with a disability in on-street or off-street parking locations such as shopping centres, hospitals, etc.
- Park for up to 30 minutes where a sign specifies 30 minutes or less.
- Park for an unlimited time period where the time limit specified by a sign is 30 minutes or more.
Queensland Disability Parking Permits (Red Permits) have more restrictions. Holders are entitled to:
- Park in any off-street designated disability parking bay identified by the international symbol of access (regardless of colour) in off-street locations, including hospitals and shopping centres.
- However, permit holders are not permitted to park in on-street parking locations, or in restricted parking zones, e.g. clearways, no stopping and bus zones.
If you park in a disability parking bay without displaying a permit, you may be fined. The permit number and expiry date must be visible from outside the vehicle.
