Waste exemptions and community event bins

We offer exemptions from waste disposal charges to community organisations within Logan. This is part of our sustainable and cost-effective Waste Management Strategy.

General waste disposal exemptions

Eligible community organisations can apply for up to $2,000 to use towards waste disposal at our facilities. You will be required to provide the following information in your application.

  • What activities your organisation undertakes.
  • How the waste exemption will benefit the Logan community.
  • An estimated number of visits you expect to take per year to Council’s waste facilities.
  • The vehicle registration details of the vehicle/s that will be used to dispose of waste with the exemption.

The exemption can only be used to dispose of waste that the organisation itself has generated. Disposal of personal or household waste is not permitted. Misuse will lead to cancellation of the waste exemption.

For more information about waste disposal fees or to find your nearest waste and recycling facility, please download the Waste fee schedule (PDF 3.5 MB).

Eligibility

Applicants must be an organisation operating within Logan. Applications will be accepted from the following:

  • Community organisations
  • Community based sporting groups
  • Eligible charities
  • State schools

How to apply

To apply for a waste exemption, please fill out our online form at least 5 days before the waste needs to be disposed of. If your application is successful, you will be issued with a waste exemption.

Waste exemption certificates expire at the end of each financial year or when the amount is expended, whichever occurs first. Successful organisations will need to re-apply for a waste exemption each financial year.

Waste disposal exemption for eligible residential properties

Some residential properties in Logan do not have a waste collection service as they are difficult to access or the house is too far away from the road. If you live in one of these areas, you can apply for an exemption certificate. This certificate allows you to dispose of a weekly amount of general waste that is about the same as what would fit in one large bin (to the size of 240 litre waste bin) at our waste facliities for free.

If you don’t receive a waste collection service and want an exemption, please:

The list of houses eligible for this certificate may change over time as urban areas grow or roads are improved.

Community event bins

Eligible community organisations hosting a community event within Logan can apply for up to $400 per financial year to use towards 240L standard or recycle bins for events. On average, these funds will allow for up to 41 waste or recycling bins.

Eligibility

Applicants must be an organisation operating within Logan. Applications will be accepted from the following:

  • Community organisations
  • Community based sporting groups
  • Eligible charities
  • State schools

If you are not eligible to apply for community event bins, you are able to hire special event bins from Council. Please see Special event bins for more information.

How to apply

To apply for community event bins, please fill out our online form. You must complete the online form at least 14 days before the event date. We will not be able to deliver the bins if your application is not submitted within this timeframe.
