Project Target Status Commentary

ET1.1.1 - Deliver actions to generate $70 million of investment and 500 local jobs by promoting the City of Logan.

Purpose: Increase local jobs and stimulate economies.

In the third quarter, investment announcements to the value of $11.81 million were recorded in the healthcare and health and fitness sectors. A national healthcare provider has site purchase options for a strategic land holding in Meadowbrook and is working on concept designs for a major healthcare precinct including a private hospital, medical centre, aged care facility, office space and education service. 

A new gymnasium open in Slacks Creek has refurbished and fitted out their premises and created 5 new jobs.”
The year-to-date total is $221.755 million which far exceeds the annual target.

The additional 5 jobs created brings the year-to-date total of new and retained jobs to 719 which exceeds the annual target of 500.

ET1.2.1 - Deliver 15 business-relevant workshops for businesses in the City of Logan.

Purpose: Build the capacity of the local economy.

Logan Office of Economic Development partnered with Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce to deliver the Joint Chambers Breakfast in January 2021. Robyn Moore was the guest speaker and the event was sold out and attended by over 90 people. The annual target of  15 workshops has been exceeded.

A large program of events is being planned in the fourth quarter as part of Queensland Small Business Month.

ET1.4.1 - Deliver two investment attraction events in the City of Logan.

Purpose: Attract investment and local jobs.

No Investment attraction events were hosted in the third quarter.  Planning for an event in the fourth quarter is underway.

ET2.1.1 - Prepare for Council Endorsement a new Economic Development Vision and Strategy for the City of Logan.

Purpose: To attract investment and provide a framework for the community, businesses and investors in the city.

As at the end of the third quarter, the consultants - SGS Economics - have completed the draft Economic Development Strategy. The Draft is currently under review by Economic Development and and Strategy Branch for feedback to SGS. This will be followed by distribution and review to internal branches before finalisation of the draft.

ET2.3.1 - Plan and deliver the city's first innovation hub (coLab).

Purpose: Support entrepreneurship, scaling businesses and capability uplift. Attract investment and highly skilled jobs to the City of Logan.

As approved by Council (10/11/2020) a Heads of Agreement has been executed with Go1 to take up a tenancy at the existing Go1 global headquarters at 2904 Logan Rd, Underwood.  Subsequently a licence agreement with Go1 to occupy the space has been executed. 

The Expression of Interest for Portfolio Company selection was advertised' subsequently three Portfolio Companies were selected as the first cohort for the coLab.  The coLab Advisory Board has met twice and additionally to provide advice and recommendations on the selection of Portfolio Companies. 

The coLab was launched on Friday the 26th of March with a significant number of key stakeholders in attendance. 

ET2.4.1 - Develop a combined "Think Local, Buy Logan" social and local marketing campaign.

Purpose: To increase social and local spend in the city.

The 'Think local, Buy Logan' internal campaign objectives have been delivered.

An animated video was distributed to all staff by Council's A/Chief Executive Officer to provide awareness and education about best value decision making, supported by the Local Buy Policy.

To demonstrate Council's commitment to proactively supporting local businesses local benefits, amendments to the current Buy Local Policy have been adopted. This includes increasing opportunities for best value decision making that creates new jobs and upskills our workforce, with an advantage to businesses who demonstrate a commitment to local development growth and initiatives.

There will now be a shift to target the campaign externally with communication, media and marketing plans developed to deliver a Supplier engagement and network session.
