How do I fit out a higher risk personal appearance service?

If you are doing a new fit-out or making major changes to an existing higher risk personal appearance service, we will need to assess your design to make sure it complies with the Queensland Development Code - Mandatory Part - MP 5.2 – Higher Risk Personal Appearance Services.

For a copy of the code please visit the Department of Housing and Public Works website.

Refer to Queensland Health's personal appearance service design and fit-out guide (3.94 KB) for detailed information that can help you understand the fit out requirements for personal appearance service businesses.

Include with your application:

  • floor plan and elevations
  • equipment schedule
  • documentation that all persons providing services have the infection control competency standard.

Once the design has been approved, you may start the fit-out of your premises. When this has been completed, an Environmental Health Officer will conduct an inspection. Once approved and the food licence is issued you may start trading.

During the application process you may be asked to provide evidence of other approvals, for example, development approvals and trade waste.
