Council provides waste collection services to commercial properties to maintain cleanliness and support community health.
Minimum commercial waste collection service
From 1 July 2025*, a minimum waste collection service will be available to every commercial property in Logan. The service will include:
- One 240 litre general waste bin (delivered upon request) collected weekly from the kerb
- A quarterly commercial waste utility charge of $163.75 to be applied from 1 July 2025.
Property owners may choose not to receive the 240 litre waste bin, however the minimum quarterly commercial waste utility charge will still apply.
This service expansion will improve access to a standard waste collection service for all commercial properties across the city. It will help reduce litter, pests and odours to create a more welcoming place for everyone. The charge helps fund essential waste management services that benefit the entire community, including:
- Upgrades to waste and recycling facilities
- Operation and maintenance of transfer stations and landfills
- Education and engagement programs
- Support for circular economy and resource recovery initiatives.
*Subject to adoption of the Council's 2025/26 annual budget on 25 June 2025.
Additional service conditions
The 240 litre general waste bin may be ordered and used at any time before 1 July 2025, however charges for the service will not commence until that date.
Commercial properties using additional Council supplied wheelie or bulk bins will incur extra charges based on quantity and type.
Commercial properties may also use private waste contractors for additional services, however the minimum Council quarterly commercial waste utility charge still applies.
There are no exemptions, concessions or transitional arrangements. All eligible properties will be levied the full prescribed charge.

Bins will be delivered within 1 to 3 business days of application receipt.

What services are included in the charge?
The charge entitles the property to a 240 litre general waste bin, emptied once per week. This bin will be delivered upon request by the property owner. The charge helps fund essential waste management services that benefit the entire community, including:
- upgrades to waste and recycling facilities
- operation and maintenance of transfer stations and landfills
- education and engagement programs
- support for circular economy and resource recovery initiatives.

What if I don’t want a general waste wheelie bin?

How can I order the 240 litre general waste bin service included in the Commercial Waste Utility Charge?

Why is the charge being applied if the commercial property generates little or no waste?
This expanded service ensures a standard collection service for all commercial properties, while also helping Council improve its waste management services across the City of Logan.
The entire community will benefit from much-needed upgrades to our waste and recycling facilities and infrastructure over the coming years, as well as a cleaner environment, funded in part from this new charge, which equates to $1.80 a day.
Why is the charge being applied if the commercial property already has a collection service provided by a private waste company?
The whole community relies on waste and recycling services and facilities and it is an essential service that Council provides.
By spreading the cost to all property owners, both residential and commercial, we are ensuring Council can continue to maintain and improve our facilities and services for everyone’s benefit.
Are there any exemptions or concessions?
No exemptions, concessions, or transitional arrangements will apply. All eligible properties will be levied the full prescribed charge.
What is the legal basis on which the charge can be applied?
Council is authorised to apply rates and charges to provide services and infrastructure to their communities under the Local Government Act 2009 Section 94(1)(b) and Local Government Regulation 2012 Section 99. We make decisions to benefit all ratepayers in our community.
What if I already have a commercial wheelie bin supplied by Council?
Properties with an existing commercial wheelie bin will see the updated charge on their July 2025 rate notice. No action needs to be taken.
Are there additional costs for properties with more than one bin?
Yes, properties with additional bins will incur extra charges based on the number and type of bins.
Can I opt for private waste management services?
Yes, commercial properties can engage private waste management companies waste collection services beyond the minimum standard charge.
How are the charges determined?
The charges are determined by Council to cover the costs associated with the delivery of waste management services and are made in accordance with relevant local government regulations and policies.
When will I be charged the commercial waste utility charge?
The commercial waste utility charge will be applied from 1 July 2025 and will appear on your future rates notices.
Can I start using the bin as soon as I receive it?
Yes, you can start using the bin straight away once you receive it, however you won't be charged until 1 July 2025.
What day will my bin be collected?
Once your bin is delivered, you can search your bin collection day on Council’s MyLogan tool, or phone Council on 07 3412 3412.
What should I do if I believe I am being charged incorrectly?
If you believe you are being charged incorrectly, please contact Council for assistance.
What do I need to do when using the services?
Ensure your bin is placed out for collection on the footpath by 6:00am on your designated collection day and follow Council's waste disposal and bin presentation guidelines.
What happens if my bin is damaged or stolen?
If your bin is damaged or stolen, please report it to Council so a replacement can be arranged.
