We are committed to improving road safety across Logan. The upgrade will help deliver a safer intersection by reducing the risk of potential crashes, by controlling the right turn from Johnson Road into Forestdale Drive.

The Black Spot Program was introduced as part of the Australian Government's commitment to reduce the risk of crashes. The program targets locations where crashes have occurred or are at risk of happening.

Project timeline

Logan City Council has completed the detailed design for the Johnson Road and Forestdale Drive intersection upgrade, including a range of environmental and cultural assessment approvals.

The project aims to deliver a safer intersection by controlling the right turn from Johnson Road into Forestdale Drive and has secured funding under the national Black Spot Program.

We will now seek tenders for construction and will continue to communicate with residents and business owners before works begin with further details, including timing and what you can expect.

Project features

The design includes:

  • improved traffic signal timings to formalise when vehicles can go, stop and turn
  • extending the right turn lane on Johnson Road into Forestdale Drive
  • upgraded road line markings to enhance the visibility of the lanes.

Project benefits

The Johnson Road and Forestdale Drive intersection upgrade will deliver a range of benefits, including:

  • improved sightlines, traffic flow and less congestion
  • quicker and more reliable travel times
  • a safer environment for vehicles, as traffic increases.

How are Black Spot locations identified?

Nominations for Black Spot locations are made by state and territory governments, councils, community groups and associations, road user groups, industry, and residents.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) Black Spot Consultative Panel considers nominations yearly. When a nomination is received, the DTMR panel will examine the nominated site’s eligibility and may undertake several other assessments.

How do I nominate a site for the Black Spot Program?

Residents can nominate a local road for the Black Spot Program by visiting how to nominate for the Black Spot Program and completing the nomination form.
