Black Spot projects

We are improving road safety with support from the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

Black Spot projects target road locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring.

By implementing measures like traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations, the program reduces the risk of crashes and improves safety for all road users.

How are Black Spot locations identified?

Nominations for Black Spot locations are made by state and territory governments, councils, community groups and associations, road user groups, industry, and residents.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) Black Spot Consultative Panel considers nominations yearly. When a nomination is received, the DTMR panel will examine the nominated site’s eligibility and may undertake several other assessments.

How do I nominate a site for the Black Spot Program?

Residents can nominate a local road for the Black Spot Program by visiting How to nominate for the Black Spot Program and completing the nomination form.
