Alpacas and llamas

The table below shows how many alpacas and / or llamas you can have on your property.

Animals are not counted until they are 12 months old.

Enclosure requirements

Preventing your animal from wandering is an important part of being a responsible pet owner. Enclosures should be in a clean and tidy condition at all times.

Enclosures must not be:

  • within 10 metres of a neighbouring dwelling
  • within 10 metres of any premises operated for the purposes of the manufacture, preparation, storage or sale of food for human consumption
  • within 2 metres of the boundary of the property

General requirements

As a responsible pet owner, you must make sure keeping the alpaca and/or llama does not cause:

  • a build-up of animal faeces
  • breeding or harbouring of flies or vermin
  • damage to property
  • harm to human health or safety
  • nuisance
  • disruption to a neighbour’s enjoyment
