PC2.1.1 - City of Logan corporate rebrand


Deliver the citywide rebrand project in line with the project plan.


Purpose: To bring a valued and unified visual identity to Council and the City of Logan.

June 2023 On Track Highlights for the third quarter include:
  • Corporate Communication Strategy draft compiled and feedback sought from internal stakeholders
  • Proud City campaign content finalised and planning under way for execution in market (external consultants appointed)
  • Annual Report Community Summary 2023/24 finalised and printed
  • Our Logan magazine and divisional newsletters produced
  • Digital Asset Management solution progressed (providers short-listed and testing under way)

PC2.2.1 - City of Logan: Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025

Deliver the second-year actions outlined in the City of Logan:

Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025 through a broad range of crime prevention and community-based safety initiatives.


Purpose: To create a safer City of Logan.

June 2023 On Track During March 2023, delivery of a range of actions from the City of Logan: Safe City Strategy and Action Plan 2021-2025 continued.  The following key highlights were achieved:  
  • As part of the pre-planning stage for several Sports, Leisure and Facilities redevelopment projects, The Community Safety (CS) program provided CPTED advice for 3 locations including Oliver Sports Centre - Eagleby, Belivah Park - Belivah and Cornubia Park - Shailer Park.
  • Completed CPTED audits of Charles Barton Park, Underwood and Skinners Park, Carbrook in response to resident complaints of homelessness and illegal, noisy, aggressive behaviour. Completed CPTED audit of Tansey Park, Tanah Merah in response to Cricket Club shed break in and theft of equipment. 
  • In response to a resident request, advised Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Park Rangers of concerns regarding antisocial behaviour in Darlington Park, Yarrabilba. Camera room priority monitored location and crime prevention initiative will be held by team at Mingle Markets in April.
  • Held a Frauds and scams presentation at Logan Central Library, Logan Central where 9 community members were engaged.
  • Held an Interactive information display in partnership with QPS and Crimestoppers at Marsden on Fifth shopping village, Marsden in response to community concern regarding vehicle and home security.
  • Attended the QPS Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Tenacity Event at The Family Place, Woodridge. Distributed information on personal safety and home security to attendees.
  • Provided feedback on 1 liquor licence application.
  • Attended several external community safety meetings and networks including:
  • The Logan Central 5 Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) meeting – discussed the importance of being an active bystander and offered to participate in NHW Easter Family Fun Day.
  • QPS Cross Cultural Liaison Unit meeting to discuss the 'Rise Program'- a support group for women who are victims of DFV.  CS Organised to conduct a home security/personal safety presentation in May for at risk community members.
  • Community Stakeholder Meeting - Kingston State School - This meeting was held in response to requests made by the First Nations Cluster (collaborative body of ten schools in the Logan Central area). The cluster suggested that increases in racially motivated/gang style fights were occurring in schools, specifically amongst the First Nations, African and Pasifika populations. Further understanding of issue to be sought by school administration before any progression can be made in a community context.
  • District NHW Area Co-ordinators Meeting – Inspector Scott Prestidge (Support Services) provided an update on the new service delivery program and the new way police are responding to incidents.  Also explained the role of the Prevention and Engagement Unit (DCPU, CCLU & SBPO) within this new framework and their role in taking carriage of NHW.
  • Logan Youth Network Meeting – promotion of Youth Street Hubz event and presentation by QLD Health on legal/criminal elements to vaping and young people.
  • Crestmead NHW rejuvenation meeting - Provided Council perspective on the importance of working in partnership with NHW in undertaking community safety and crime prevention initiatives.  Also discussed the importance of community connectedness and how this impacts positively on the fear of crime and also addresses perceptions of crime.

PC2.2.2 - Swim Logan
 

Deliver water safety awareness education sessions. Provide culturally appropriate learn-to-swim activities for:

  • First Nations people
  • newly arrived migrants and refugees.
Purpose: To increase participant swimming skills.
December 2022 Completed Swim Logan 2020-22 achieved the following highlights:
  • 649 newly arrived migrants and refugees attended 95 water safety sessions at various locations across the city.
  • 1,193 newly arrived migrants and refugees attended 46 learn to swim programs, resulting in 7,792 attendances.
  • 137 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants attended 8 swim programs resulting in 605 attendances.
  • 1,979 newly arrived migrants, refugees, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants engaged in 95 water safety awareness sessions.
  • 440 individual swimming lessons were delivered.
  • the project successfully exceeded its total target of 4,000 attendances across water safety awareness sessions and individual swimming lessons with 9,046 attendances.
  • 1,200 welcome bags were provided to migrants and refugees, consisting of goggles, a swim cap and welcome card in language.
  • 154 participants were provided with culturally appropriate swimwear, nappies and incontinence pads.
  • 150 shirts designed by local indigenous artist, Casey Coolwell, were provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and instructors.
  • 20 Islamic swimwear sets were distributed.
  • 475 participants accessed free childcare during lesson times.
  • 85 participants were identified as high needs and accessed an extra lessons.
  • 100 participants attended first aid and CPR awareness training.
  • 9 newly arrived migrants and refugees were employed as Bicultural Aquatic Assistants.
  • 4 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people were upskilled as pool lifeguards.
  • 30 staff members and 15 Swim Logan participants undertook Cultural Awareness in Aquatics (CAIA) training.
  • 4 key water safety messages were translated into 5 different languages with signage now displayed in Council-owned pools.

PC2.2.3 - KRANK School Holiday Program

Deliver a school holiday program for 5- to 17-year-olds.


Purpose: To encourage participation in active and healthy programs.


To increase community participation during school holidays.

June 2023 On Track As at the end of the third quarter the KRANK program continued to provide a range of school holiday activities to the community. The following key highlights were achieved:
  • 125 school holiday activities were delivered
  • 74 at-home activities were purchased
  • 2,091 children and young people participated in the January school holiday program

PC2.2.4 - Active and Healthy Program

Deliver a health and wellbeing program for all Logan residents.
Purpose: To encourage participation in:
  • affordable and accessible physical activities
  • health and wellbeing programs.
June 2023 On Track As at the end of the third quarter the Active & Healthy program continued to deliver a range of health and wellbeing activities to the community. The following key highlights were achieved:
  • 343 health and wellbeing activities were delivered
  • 15 new activities were added to the program to support children and families, people with disability and culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • 82 service providers applied to deliver activities in the 2023/24 financial year

PC2.2.5 - Libraries Learning and Discovery Strategy 2019-2023

Deliver the outcomes of the Libraries Learning and Discovery Strategy 2019-2023.
This is delivered through the 6 priorities of:

    Purpose: To support Logan's community through purposeful library programming
  •  nurturing learning and well-being
  • sustainability

  • embracing life-long curiosity and discovery.

About:  Deliver the outcomes of the Libraries Learning and Discovery Strategy 2019-2023 to provide purposeful library programming support to the community through the six strategic priorities of access and inclusion, economic opportunity, nurturing learning and well-being, sustainability, connected community and embracing life-long curiosity and discovery.

Quarter three update:

  • During the third quarter, a range of learning and literacy programs were delivered, including youth employment programs through Job Help sessions across libraries in Logan.
  • Logan City Council Libraries Job Help programs and services won the 2022 Dare to Try Logan City Council Employee Excellence Award in January.
  • Continued delivery of activities in Libraries including Page Turners, Baby Time, Wriggle and Rhyme and the Be Connected Service for older Australians.
  • Delivery of 355 take home packs celebrating World Pride Month were distributed to families.
  • Library staff continued to raise awareness of library services across the community at a range of outreach events presentations and network meetings.
  • 1,709 residents living with disability or barriers utilised inclusive services through the Accessibility Centre at Logan North Library.

Outcome:  The continued delivery of programs and services to support Logan's community well-being and resilience.

PC2.3.1 - Events Strategy deployment

Deliver strategic outcomes from the endorsed Events Strategy.

Purpose: To enhance delivery of the existing events portfolio.

As at the end of March the project achieved the following;

  • Delivery of Citizenship Ceremony and continued planning of events to come in April
  • Ongoing support of events delivered through Sports Marketing Attraction (SMA) Program.
  • As at the end of the third quarter the following planned activities were successfully delivered to the community:
  • Australia Day Awards
  • Eats and Beats Underwood Park
  • Citizenship Ceremony x 2
  • SMA events including Australian Junior Darts Competition and Australian Esports League Event

PC2.3.2 - Reconciliation Action Plan

Progress a detailed development plan for Council's next Reconciliation Action Plan.

Purpose: To:

  • strengthen relationships
  • build knowledge within Council
  • identify opportunities
  • work towards outcomes that will support the organisation and Logan's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

At the end of the third quarter the following was achieved:

  • A report was presented to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) business meeting on 19 January, detailing planning and a review of Council's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). ELT supported the recommendation that Council's next Reconciliation Action Plan be an Innovate level RAP and internally focussed.
  • Progress continued on expanding the RAP allyship program to grow Council-wide staff capacity to support the development of the third RAP. Community Engagement program completed project planning to refresh the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement manual. Council's external website content and internal Buzz page content was updated to support increasing cultural knowledge across the City of Logan and within Council.

PC2.3.3 - Access and Inclusion Plan

Coordinate and support implementation of the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022.

Purpose: To create a more accessible and inclusive city for everyone.

As at the end of the second quarter the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019/2022 progressed well and is now completed. The following key highlights were achieved:

  • Prepared and presented the Access and Inclusion Plan 2019-2022 outcome report to the Executive Leadership Team and the Community Lifestyle Committee. This highlighted that 83 out of the 84 actions have been achieved in the plan with an additional 11 actions delivered over the past 4 years.
  • Following community consultation, 40 staff representatives from 26 branches have developed 103 actions to form the draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025.
  • The draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 was presented to the Community and Lifestyle Committee on Wednesday 7 December and was endorsed for public consultation.
  • The draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 was released for public consultation via Council's Have Your Say platform on Thursday 15 December. It will be open for public consultation until Sunday 5 February 2023.
  • Following public consultation, the draft Disability Action Plan 2023-2025 will progress to final stages and be presented to the Community and Lifestyle Committee on Wednesday 15 March 2023.

PC2.3.4 - Community development initiatives

Deliver community development initiatives that strengthen and build the community.

Purpose: To respond to local priorities.

June 2023

On Track

As at the end of the third quarter a range of community development initiatives were delivered to the community. The following key highlights were achieved:

  • Stories from the Kitchen dinner was held on Saturday 11 February at Springwood Community Centre and Saturday 25 March at Woodridge State High School, where 56 people from 11 cultural backgrounds attended.
  • Chatty Cafe was held on Wednesday 15 March at 4 local cafes. A total of 15 residents attended the program with 6 volunteers. This program provides a safe and inclusive space where residents can connect and meet new people
  • Partnered with Access and MultiLink to host a Community Leaders Forum on Thursday 30 March. Approximately 60 community leaders and residents attended and participated identifying challenges to accessing quality healthcare and opportunities to better support our multicultural communities.
  • Supported Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre and Logan Village Community Centre to host Neighbour Day events on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March at Eagleby Wetlands and Logan Village Green. More than 300 residents attended and participated in activities on the day making new community connections.
  • Delivered both the Logan Seniors and Community Centres network meetings on Wednesday 8 February and Thursday 16 February where 27 service providers, local seniors and 6 centres attended.
  • Delivered Strategic Planning training on Wednesday 22 March to 5 Community Centre's as part of the Community Training Program
  • Partnered with Carers QLD to deliver disability awareness training to 5 community garden groups on Saturday 25 March.
  • Partnered with Multilink to distribute over 1,800 Logan Street Services Guides to housing and homelessness service providers
  • Supported the Logan Disability Coalition on Wednesday 15 March where service providers provide support to Logan residents with disability.

PC2.3.5 - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary Program

 

Deliver the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Bursary.

Purpose: To support employment opportunities in Council for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The successful applicant has commenced working 2 days a week in Council for Development Assessment.

The applicant is spending time with both the Development Operations Team and the Management Support Team.

PC2.3.6 - Living Museum of Logan

Deliver the Living Museum of Logan exhibition and programs in collaboration with the community.

Purpose: To:

  • share the stories of our culturally diverse communities and of Logan’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • share themes of importance to Logan's people
  • enhance visitor experience to the City of Logan

About:  Deliver the Living Museum of Logan exhibition and programs in collaboration with the community, sharing the stories of our culturally diverse communities, Logan's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the themes of importance to Logan's people and enhancing visitor experience to the City of Logan.

Quarter three update:

  • The Living Museum of Logan continued to develop new audiences for the current exhibition program through tours and workshops.
  • During March, a museum tour was presented to 108 primary students from Canterbury College, and a creative activity by artist Sally Terare was presented to 100 students in conjunction with the 'A Bee Story' performance.
  • The quarter three milestone 'Big Voices: children's art matters exhibition' is progressing with partner stakeholders and will be installed during quarter four.
  • A total of 5,548 people visited the Living Museum of Logan during quarter three, which includes 2,800 in March. This brings the total number of visitors for the 2022/2023 financial year to 25,228.
  • Outcome:  Provision of quality exhibitions, public programs and museum tours.

PC2.4.1 - Enhancement to City Administration Centre main entry

Deliver an enhanced main entry to the Logan city Council City Administration Centre.

Purpose: To provide a more attractive area for customers conducting routine business.
