Infrastructure planning and charges

What is trunk infrastructure?

Under Queensland's planning legislation, Council may require developers to contribute to the provision of trunk infrastructure identified in the Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP). The video explains how this works.

Trunk infrastructure is higher order infrastructure that supports large areas or catchments. It includes things like water or sewerage treatment facilities, parks and main roads.

Trunk infrastructure is classified into these networks:

  • water supply
  • sewer
  • stormwater
  • movement (transport – road and cycle)
  • parks
  • land for community facilities such as libraries or sports fields.

Non-trunk infrastructure is internal to a development and may connect a development to an external infrastructure network.
