The Logan Urban Design Awards promote excellence in the design and creation of urban environments within Logan.

Fundamental principles of good urban design and our awards criteria help us to create healthy, inclusive and social environments that:

  • attract new business and investment
  • provide a variety of housing, work and lifestyle options
  • facilitate creativity and innovation
  • have a strong identity and sense of place.

The LUDA awards ceremony will take place in March 2021, nominees will be notified in advance with additional information regarding the event.

Logan Urban Design Awards 2020 - Awards Criteria

Architecture Award

Awarded to a built form project (residential, commercial, industrial or institutional).

Consideration will be given to:

  • the use of innovative features and design elements which contribute to ongoing economic, social or environmental outcomes
  • the use of innovative and creative design features which challenge conventional thinking and explores new ways of doing things to achieve a high standard
  • the use of high-quality materials and finishes which complement and enhance the visual quality and richness of the entire area
  • how a project maintains the unique sense of a place by embracing change yet respecting its heritage (if appropriate)
  • the creative application of accessibility standards in a way which enables dignified use, ease of access and lifestyle choices for all people.

Landscape Architecture and Urban Infrastructure Award

Awarded to showcase the best in public works.

Consideration will be given to:

  • how a project maintains the unique sense of a place by creating quality landscapes and community pride, embracing change yet respecting its heritage (if appropriate)
  • the creative application of accessibility standards in a way which enables dignified use and ease of access for all people
  • how our landscape is protected and sustained by promoting environmental values, respecting and enhancing eco-systems in a sustainable and collaborative manner
  • how the project promotes the connection between people and the landscape, creating meaningful landscapes that can be cherished and cared for by future generations
  • how the project creates positive experiences in the landscape, where the experience of the landscape is fundamental to health, creates inspired outdoor settings and contributes to the greater whole.

Master Planning Award

Awarded to a master-planned development or community.

Consideration will be given to:

  • how the project promotes a healthy, safe, vibrant and pleasant public environment and user experience
  • the project’s contribution to and integration with adjoining streets, public spaces and the public realm
  • the project’s contribution towards the urban greenspace through use of landscaping to create shade, comfort and visual amenity
  • how the project promotes the connection between people, buildings and the landscape, creating meaningful landscapes that can be cherished and cared for by future generations
  • how the project contributes towards a variety of housing, work and lifestyle options.

Business, Programs and Events Award

Awarded to a business, program or event that contributes to a coherent and appealing urban environment.

Consideration will be given to:

  • how the business, program or event uses or promotes the surrounding local area and / or urban environment
  • how the business, program or event contributes towards place activation and a night time economy
  • the reach (local, regional, national, international) the business, program or event achieved
  • how the business, program or event adapted to changing economic and legislative requirements caused by COVID-19 and demonstrated resilience or adaptability.

Judges

Richard Coulson

Richard Coulson, Director, Cox Architecture 

Richard has over 25 years of experience in the industry. He has undertaken a diverse portfolio of projects across a range of building types, including the sports, education, cultural, community, and transport sectors. 

He leads the Sustainability group for COX Queensland. He has also been directly involved in leading six-star Green Star projects in Australia.

Nick Marshall

Nicholas Marshall, National Sales Director, The Urban Developer

Nicolas has over a decade's experience in the property sector. He has a degree in Property Economics and diploma in Project Management. Nick joined the founders of The Urban Developer in 2014. He has been integral to its growth into the leading integrated media, events, and education network for the property industry.

Nathalie Ward

Nathalie Ward FAILA, Director, Lat27 

Nathalie has worked in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Australia over the last 25 plus years. She has engaged with multidisciplinary teams to produce award-winning projects in urban design, infrastructure, park design, residential design and more. 

She was awarded a Fellowship from AILA for her contributions to Landscape Architecture in 2017.
