The following information will help you find out about applying for an event or market in Logan City.
We support community and entertainment events as part of our vibrant and diverse community. Your event may need a licence under Local Law No.9 (Licensing) 1999. Complying with the local law will make sure the event or market maintains high standards of public health and safety.
Before holding any event you need to make sure that:
- you have the consent of the land owner (which may be Council)
- the land or location has the correct approval under the Planning Scheme
- if required, you hold a license under our Local laws.
A market or event will either:
- Require a licence under our Local Laws. This means an application will need to be lodged before the event. The application may result in a licence approval to operate the market or event under certain conditions, or
- Require notification of the market or event. This means a licence may not be required. You will need to notify us about these events before the event occurs.
You may not need a licence if your event is:
- a temporary event that occurs less than 14 days in a calendar year
- subject to a lease agreement or a tenancy agreement with Logan City Council, or
- expected to attract an attendance of less than 2000 people for the duration of the event (Duration is the entire time of the event not each day that the event is held. (e.g. for weekly markets this would be the estimated attendance over 52 weeks in the year)

Please note:
- An exempt event still needs to be operated to meet high health and safety standards. The event needs to meet the criteria outlined in Subordinate Local Law 9.8 (Events) 1999 Section 5. The event location will need to be in line with the Planning Scheme and have the consent of the land owner (which could be Council).
- The requirement to apply for and obtain a licence under a Local Law for School fetes does not apply to schools operated by the Queensland State government.

- a site plan showing stage, toilets, bins, equipment, stalls and any other relevant information
- details of the market or event, date, times and any event or market management plans
- evidence of current Public Liability insurance to a minimum value of $20,000,000, if the market or event is on Council land the policy will need to identify Council as an interested party.

Planning approval
Before submitting your application, you should make sure that the site has the correct land use for the proposed event and if any Development Approval is needed. For more information, please call us on 07 3412 5269.
Road closures
If the market or event interferes with traffic operations or closure of any part of a Council road (including footpath area) you will need to apply for a temporary road closure. Advertising signs

Food licensing

Roads
If the proposed event or market is on a State-controlled road, the written permission of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) must be obtained for any road closures or traffic control. Final approval from Queensland Police may also be required. For more information, please visit DTMR.
Fireworks
If you want to use special effects like pyrotechnic explosions or fireworks, approval is required from the Department of Resources (DOR). To find more information, please visit DOR.
Alcohol

Temporary Structures
You may need to get a building approval or engineering certification for any temporary fixtures e.g. stage, shade awnings, grandstand seating, tents or temporary tents that have a plan area more than 100m2 but less than 500m2. Rides
Certification for any amusement rides is required from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
