Change of ownership
If you sell your property, you don’t need to update your address for rate notices. The Titles office will notify us, and we’ll send the rate notices to the new owners.
If you move out but still own the property, update your mailing address by:
If you have Direct Debit or scheduled BPAY payments set up for the property you’re selling, cancel them immediately to avoid unwanted payments being made after the sale.
If you are buying a property in Logan, please see Information about buying a residential property.
Add, change or remove a name from a property title or rates notice
To add, change or remove a name on the property title, please visit the Titles Queensland. Once the title has been updated, the titles office will let us know. This can take four to six weeks. We will then update the details on the rate notice.
What if the property cannot be lived in due to house fire, flood or natural disaster?
If your house cannot be lived in, please let us know by emailing us at council@logan.qld.gov.au or calling us on 07 3412 3412. We can assess the property and determine how we can help. We may be able to adjust the property’s service charges.
Guidance for Next of Kin or Executors
We understand that losing a loved one is a deeply emotional time, and managing property matters can feel overwhelming. The way property is handled after someone passes depends on how it was owned:
- Joint Tenancy: If the property was held under a joint tenancy, the deceased’s share automatically passes to the surviving joint tenant/s. This transfer occurs outside of the Will and generally does not require probate.
- Tenants in Common: If the property was owned as tenants in common, the deceased person’s fractional share is distributed according to their Will. If there is no Will, the share is distributed under the laws of intestacy.
To help ensure property records are accurate and up to date:
- If a person’s name appears on a Queensland property title, you must notify Titles Queensland so that their property, mortgages, and leases can be properly managed.
- Please also inform Council so we can update our property records accordingly.
You’ll need a copy of the death certificate before notifying Titles Queensland or informing Council. For assistance with the process of notifying Titles Queensland, please contact them directly. If you prefer, a solicitor can assist you with this process.
Account establishment fee
