Edelsten Road upgrade

Logan City Council is upgrading 2.5 kilometres of Edelsten Road from Mundoolun Road to Wynne Road at Jimboomba.

The upgrade of Edelsten Road will:

  • improve road safety
  • enhance flood immunity.

Our Way2Go Connecting Logan (PDF 16.8 MB) integrated local transport plan (December 2018) lists this project as a strategic north-south, two-lane road link to support our growing southern suburbs.

This project is being delivered under our Capital Roadworks and Drainage Program. The project is funded from our source funds and contributions from developers towards trunk road network requirements.

This project will involve:

  • widening the two-lane road to allow for wider 3.5m traffic lanes and 3m wide shoulders
  • constructing new consolidated access lanes to enable properties along the road to access and egress the road in a safer location with improved sight distances
  • upgrading the Davidson Road and Wynne Road intersections
  • replacing existing culverts at Strachan Creek
  • a new bridge construction across Jimboomba Creek
  • construction of a new road surface and drainage infrastructure
  • fauna fence and associated koala crossing infrastructure at Strachan and Jimboomba Creek crossings
  • reconstructing property driveways to tie into the new road surface
  • separated pedestrian facilities over Strachan and Jimboomba Creek crossings. 

To meet Australian design standards we will need to widen the road and improve sight distances. The work will result in some land requirements from adjoining private properties along Edelsten Road.

Section 95A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999

Logan City Council proposes to upgrade 2.6 kilometres of Edelsten Road from Mundoolun Road to Wynne Road at Jimboomba.

The Edelsten Road upgrade, Jimboomba, Queensland (EPBC 2020/8858) was deemed a controlled action requiring assessment by preliminary documentation under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The controlling provisions are: 

  • The controlling provisions under the EPBC Act are ‘listed threatened species and ecological communities’ (Sections 18 and 18A of the EPBC Act)

Pursuant to section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, the draft preliminary documentation is available for public viewing at the following locations:

  • Jimboomba Library - 18-22 Honora Street, Jimboomba
  • Logan Central Administration Building - 150 Wembley Road, Logan Central

The project is now in the process of concluding the design phase.

At this stage, we are planning for commencement of preliminary works in the 2022/23 financial year.
