Council offers discounted registration for all puppies under the age of 12 months and all desexed dogs.

The general recommendation is for dogs to be desexed between 5 and 6 months of age. In more recent years, and based on scientific evidence, the RSPCA and many veterinarians are recommending that dogs be desexed before they reach puberty, which for some dogs can be as early as 4 months. Desexing can be performed safely from 8 weeks (at a minimum body weight of 1kg), and evidence shows that at this earlier age, surgery and healing times are both faster.

You can receive a discount on your pet registration if:

  • your cat or dog is desexed
  • you hold a valid and current Pension Concession Card (this will need to be shown when paying your pet registration)
  • you are a current financial breeder member of a recognised association:
    • Dogs Queensland
    • Queensland Feline Association Inc.
    • Queensland Racing Integrity Commission
    • Feline Control Council of Queensland Inc.
    • Queensland Independent Cat Council Inc.
