Driveways

Constructing a driveway video transcript

Constructing and maintaining a residential driveway over the section that crosses the nature strip (from the property boundary to the edge of the road) is the property owner’s responsibility.

Driveways must be constructed using the correct specifications and plans. Correctly constructed driveways avoid things like steep driveway slopes and stormwater runoff, and make sure the driveway it is safe for pedestrians to walk across.

You need approval to construct a driveway over the nature strip.

You can apply online for a residential driveway on a road with kerb and channelling or download and fill in a residential driveway application – kerb and channel (PDF 77 KB) and return to us.

There is no inspection or fee for this application.

The following documents provide more information about our policy and specifications for residential driveways:

Residential driveways – NO kerb and channel on the block frontage

Roads that do not have kerb and channelling are likely to have a stormwater drain on the road side. This is common in rural areas and can make it hard for a vehicle to access the property.

To improve vehicle access to a property it is common to construct a driveway using a pipe. This is known as a pipe crossover.

If you want to install a driveway with a pipe crossover we will work with you to find the best location and pipe size.

You can apply online for a residential driveway (with no kerb and channel) or download and fill in Residential driveway – no kerb and channel (PDF 97 KB) and return to us. A fee and inspection are required for this application. We will forward an invoice to you when we approve your application.
