Latest Update
April 2025 Update
We have been advised that a proposal for increased funding from the State Government for the Bethania to Logan Village rail trail has not been accepted.
We are currently assessing how this will impact the project and working hard to develop a new course of action along with identifying other funding opportunities.
We will update the community as further information is available.
Project overview
Logan City Council is progressing the design of the Bethania to Logan Village Rail Trail, with support from the Queensland Government's Rail Trail Local Government Grants Program.
The Rail Trail Local Government Grants Program was introduced to support the delivery of recreational walking, bike riding and horse trails on disused State-owned rail corridors.
We're transforming 11.5 kilometres of historical rail corridor into a destination for Logan residents and visitors to enjoy.
The trail will provide a much-needed safe off-road connection from Bethania to the Yarrabilba Rail Trail, better connecting the City of Logan. By improving opportunities to cycle, walk and run, we are building a healthier and greener city.

Project timeline
Following preliminary design of the rail trail in June 2022, the community was invited to share their thoughts and ideas between August to October 2022.
The design was progressed incorporating feedback from the community. In July 2023, information sessions were held in Logan Village, Waterford and Bethania, inviting the community to view and provide comments on the latest design draft.
We will be back in touch with the community in late 2024, once the final scope and funding are approved by both Council and State Government. Construction is anticipated to start in 2025.
Project features
The design includes:
- a 11.5 kilometre gravel and asphalt rail trail from Bethania train station to Logan Village
- cycle service stations at Bethania and Logan Village
- yarning circle, sheltered seating and water bubblers with taps and dog drinking bowls along the trail
- parking for horse floats at the Dairy Creek trail head, which includes parking facilities for horse floats, sheltered seating and a horse trough (subject to approvals)
- security cameras in certain sections.
Project benefits
The rail trail will deliver a range of benefits, including:
- increased walking, running, bike riding and horse-riding opportunities
- providing a safe and family friendly environment more opportunities for car-free journeys by connecting into the rail network at Bethania Station
- attracting and connecting visitors with shops, businesses and services to boost local economies.
Community information session
We would like to thank all those who attended the community information sessions in July and provided feedback on the draft design of the rail trail.
Our team has been working through the feedback and taking it into consideration as they progress the detailed design.
Have your say
The Have Your Say survey opened from August 2022 to October 2022 and asked the community to share their thoughts and ideas for the Bethania to Logan Village Rail Trail. The information gathered helped further develop the draft design.
