If you have sold or given your pet to a new owner, it’s important to update the ownership details on the pet’s registration.
To transfer ownership, the new owner will need to complete and submit an Application for transfer of ownership for animal registration form(PDF, 229KB) to our Animal Management team.
What if the previous owner can’t sign?
If you’re unable to get the form signed by the previous owner (for example, if they’re unavailable of deceased), you can:
- Complete a Statutory Declaration explaining why the form can’t be signed
- If the previous owner is deceased, a copy of the death certificate will be accepted instead.
Timeframe for transfers
Registration transfers are only available during the first six months of the registration period, which runs from September to February.
If your pet has a 3 year registration the transfer would only be available during the first six months of year 1.
If you request a transfer after February, you’ll need to complete a new registration for your pet, and the standard registration fee will apply.
