Suburb boundary change
Suburb boundaries mark the official edges of each suburb in Logan City. They are used for postal addresses, planning, service delivery and community identity.
Who has authority over suburb boundaries?
The Queensland Government has the exclusive right to decide whether a suburb boundary should be amended.
The Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development has jurisdiction to:
- receive submissions from members of the community proposing a suburb boundary amendment
- make decisions on those submissions.

Council’s role in the process
Council has no legal authority to:
- amend a suburb boundary
- receive submissions from the community proposing amendments
- make decisions on submissions.
Council’s role is limited to:
- making a submission to the Queensland Government to request amendment of a suburb boundary
- providing a letter of support to a third party (such as a developer or community member) who intends to make a submission to the Queensland Government.
Council’s role in suburb boundary matters is guided by the Suburb Boundary Change Procedure(PDF, 840KB). This procedure sets out how Council may participate in the process, either by making a submission to the Queensland Government or by providing a letter of support to a third party who wishes to lodge a submission. Members of the public should consult this procedure in the first instance if they are seeking Council’s involvement in suburb boundary matters.
