Latest update

November 2025

Fryer Road has now reopened to traffic in both directions. There will be minor works such as line marking and kerb works that may require short term, localised closures.

Working hours are back to 7:00am to 5:00pm.

All drainage works are now complete. Landscaping and finishing works will be completed before Christmas.

Project features

Project features for the Eagleby Master Drainage Upgrade include:

  • installation of 2.6 kilometres of new drainage infrastructure, including larger pipes, maintenance holes and culverts
  • resurfacing parts of the road impacted by the works
  • driveway and fencing reconstruction works (where required)
  • replacement of kerb and footpath (where required)
  • vegetation removal and tree trimming (where required)
  • and replacement/relocation of services and restoration activities.

Project timeline

Works commenced on the Cowper Avenue catchment in January 2023, followed by the Kelly Street catchment in March 2023.

In early March 2024, works on the Eagleby master drainage project were placed on hold when the contractor responsible for the works, Allroads, was placed into administration.

In May 2024, BMD took over as the newly appointed contractor to complete all open works. These works concluded December 2024.

BMD successfully secured the new tender for stage 2 works. These works started on 17 February 2025 and should take approximately 10 months to complete (weather and contractor conditions permitting).

Project benefits

A range of benefits will be delivered as part of this project, including:

  • allowing stormwater to drain more easily during wet weather events
  • helping to protect people and property during these weather events
  • building a more resilient and reliable stormwater network.

Project impacts

Given the nature of the work, unfortunately some impacts are unavoidable. This includes but are not limited to:

  • increased noise, dust, and vibration
  • temporary footpath closures or diversions, and/or temporary bus stop relocations (changes will be signed)
  • temporary loss of street parking and driveway access (affected residents will be notified in advance)
  • temporary closure of some local parks
  • temporary water, sewer and power disruptions
  • intermittent night works where required (residents will be notified).

Local traffic

Impact to local traffic conditions are to be expected.

  • Changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits, road/lane closures and detours (as needed).
  • Traffic controllers will be available during working hours to assist as required.
  • Motorists are advised to plan their journey and allow extra travel time. We thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to provide a safer, more resilient, and reliable stormwater drainage network.
