An innovative approach to social housing design at Underwood has taken out the top award in the 2025 Logan Urban Design Awards (LUDA).

City of Logan Mayor Jon Raven said the awards, announced last night, recognised the best in urban planning, architecture and design in the City of Logan.

“Great design makes great cities,” Mayor Raven said.

“I want our community to dream big and be ambitious for what Logan will become over the next 50 years.

“The work that these awards recognise is a huge part of that.

“This is about celebrating the projects and people who are shaping the future of Logan, helping us build a better and more innovative city.

“Our award nominees and winners are part of what makes Logan so attractive for business, investors and people buying their own home.”

The Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works and architects Archipelago are behind the Underwood social housing project on Cristaldi Avenue.

The award judges praised the project for its excellence in responsive, inclusive and sustainable urban design.

The successful delivery of the project on a sloping site and the creation of the homes around a central garden spine were also highlighted.

Other LUDA winners are:

  • People focused and connected: The United Cultures Centre and Z block learning centre at Mabel Park State High School (The Queensland Department of Education and ThomsonAdsett).
  • Responsive and resilient: Underwood social housing (The Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works and Archipelago).
  • Distinctive: Distillery Road Market Precinct (Kenton Campbell and Tonken Property Group).
  • Embracing nature: Borrol Lookout and Billubera Park at Yarrabilba (Stockland and RPS Group).
