Prohibited and restricted matter

Prohibited

Prohibited pests are not currently found in Queensland but would have a significant negative impact on our health, way of life, the economy or the environment if it entered the state.

If you become aware of prohibited matter or you believe that something is prohibited matter, you need to:

  • report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 within 24 hours, unless you are aware that it has already been reported
  • take all reasonable steps to minimise the risks of the prohibited matter and not make the situation worse.

Restricted

Restricted matter is biosecurity matter found in Queensland and has a significant impact on human health, social amenity, the economy or the environment.

  • Category 1 and 2 restricted matter must be reported.
  • Category 1 restricted matter must be reported to an inspector within 24 hours.
  • Category 2 restricted matter must be reported to an inspector or authorised person within 24 hours.
